Two (not so) Pretty Faces
June 9, 2009
Front page of the Toronto Star says “TOP TORY CURSES TORONTO”. In the same column for a different article “ANOTHER TOP TORY CUTS DOWN COLLEAGUE”. And on another section of the front page “MINT’S ‘LOST’ GOLD WORTH A MINT”.
That doesn’t sound too promising now does it? Despite the importance of Toronto and Gold, I’d like to take a look at the Raitt and Macdonnell issue. They are both ex-successful-and-pretty ladies. I saw Jasmine MacDonnell’s face on the page the other day when she was fired for leaving confidential documents behind and thought “she’s pretty”. But before I go on my lovely rant about how ridiculous this whole situation is, let me enlighten those who haven’t read about it yet.
The whole situation was brought to light when Jasmine Macdonnell, aid to the Minister of Natural Resources Lisa Raitt lost her job when she left behind confidential documents somewhere. Can I just point out that this is the SECOND time some government official has left behind documents? K thanks. Moving on, there was the whole issue where Lisa Raitt handed in her resignation and Harper refused the accept it. Hypocritical since he had said after the first incident that he would ensure that it doesn’t happen again and he fired the first one. Anyways, now today we find out that MacDonnell left a tape of her talking to Raitt about the nuclear plant shutting down. For those of you who don’t remember, it was when some important plant that produced isotops globally had to be shut down because of leaks and thus caused a deficiency in the isotopes needed to diagnose cancer for the entire world. And what does Raitt call it? sexy. The exact quote being ” but it’s sexy, radioactive leaks, cancer”. Apparently this tape was left at some newspaper thing where MacDonnell was supposed to pick it up but never did and was opened when she was fired. Does this whole situation not seem completely ludicrous already? Not to mention the tape also recorded Raitt bashing Health Minister Leano Aglukkaq. I’d also like to mention that Raitt denies that there are any moral or ethical issues surrounding the closing of the plant and that it’s all about money. Excuse me? Perhaps she doesn’t realize that a majority of cancers need to be diagnosed early on for a successful recovery and a lack of isotopes to diagnose people will literally kill. This stupid government is so flawed in so many ways I keep going on tangents. Anyways…
We are in the middle of a recession and our bloody Minister of Natural Resources can’t even get her act together. Granted all these events happened before the recession but really? This type of news that our current government promotes hypocrisy, lies, back-stabbing and greed has scared away what little confidence I previously had in the government. I am not impressed that all this ever occurred. I realize that people aren’t perfect but this is just way uncool. Dissing your co-worker, neglecting the moral issues, leaving behind documents. Not cool. I really believe Canadians do whatever we can to be the best that we can be and if you’re going to represent the country, you’d better be a darn good person. I see kids that I teach, little 4 and 5 year olds that are more qualified personality-wise and priority-wise than Raitt.
I am NOT happy with this government and if this kind of stuff keep going, I will definitely cast my vote, when election time comes, for the Liberals.
